A flash of lightning lit the sky in a bright flare, thunder rolling in the distance, not far behind-- the storm was worsening, surely. A man, younger than thirty-five, face worn and wrinkled from working a nine-to-nine pace, with firey-red hair that seemed to defy all laws of gravity, snarled at the dark road from his driver's seat, fingers taping impatiently on his steering wheel as he eased his foot on the acceleration, stopping right before the huge traffic build-up that stood between him and a nice cup of coffee and the ten-o'-clock news.
The rain, which had started as a mere drizzle only and hour or so before, was completely spontanio
There were times during which America would be fairly calm and meek. He realized that there were things in the world that were, in fact, larger and of more importance than himself. It was in these times, when America was sufferable, that he presumed the role of a caregiver, a respectable older brother. A friend. A comfort. Comfort to a damned little boy.
Now, this boy was nothing special, not in the slightest. He looked the age of thirteen, with pale skin that had hardly seen light, and honey-brown hair that fell loosely around his face in a tangled mess. Just slightly underweight, and rather short for his age, his eyes as dark as chocolat
"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
~Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
Scribbles and markings were etched (poorly) on the walls, unknown liquids were spilled in permanent puddles on the floor, wild laughter and screaming filled the halls and echoed through the rooms as equally wild children fought and boasted with one-another. A tall, youthful blonde collapsed onto a lounge chair, pinching the bridge of his nose, his head pounding. His golden locks fell down to his face, the tuft of hair that stood always drooped slightly. He was exhausted. America the Hero was beat.
